About Ryan
You can understand a science lesson in class and still get stuck when you open the homework. That's a useful place for us to start. I'm Ryan. I offer Ontario curriculum support in Biology, Chemistry and general Science, alongside English and French for Grades 4–8. My lessons can take place in English or French. I like to ask what you think is happening before reaching for the textbook explanation. A rough sketch or an everyday comparison often gives us something to work with. For younger students, I also enjoy working on the language side of schoolwork: understanding a passage, organising a paragraph or trying out a sentence in Core French. We can slow down over vocabulary and practise saying an idea before writing it, without making every conversation feel like a test. In Science, we'll also practise putting ideas into the form a question asks for: describing a trend, explaining a process or using evidence to support a conclusion. I'm happy to pause over an unfamiliar word or go back to an earlier topic. You don't have to keep nodding if it hasn't clicked yet!
Tutoring experience
I've worked with Ontario students on Biology, Chemistry and general Science, supporting classwork, revision and the explanations that go with scientific calculations. Some have needed help with the subject itself; others have understood the idea but found the wording of a question difficult to unpack. Tutoring in English and French has given me experience noticing when an unfamiliar term is getting in the way. I've also supported Grades 4–8 English and Core French, helping with reading, short written responses and the confidence to speak in class. I've helped students read their own notes more critically, talk through what an experiment shows and turn a rough explanation into a clearer answer. Alongside my teacher education, these sessions have been a useful reminder that the first explanation isn't always the one that makes sense to a learner.
