About Lucy
My Chemistry, Biology and general Science tutoring follows the BC curriculum and centres on clear explanations, accurate terminology and evidence-based reasoning. I help students connect observations to the scientific ideas behind them, then express that understanding in calculations, diagrams and written answers. I went on to teacher education after my Chemistry degree and gained a BC Professional Certificate of Qualification. The training encouraged me to plan around what students should be able to explain and apply, which remains the starting point for my science lessons. For Biology, my focus is on cellular and biochemical topics, including membranes, enzymes and the molecules involved in living processes. We connect a labelled diagram to an explanation and examine what an experiment can, and cannot, tell us. This complements my Chemistry background while keeping the biological context in view. We use current classwork to identify priorities and revisit any foundations that are causing difficulty. For assessment preparation, I focus on interpreting the question, selecting relevant information and checking the response carefully. Please share the student's grade and current unit so we can discuss the support required.
Tutoring experience
My experience includes individual tutoring in BC Chemistry and general Science, together with classroom work undertaken through teacher education. I have supported students reviewing foundational concepts, working through current course material and preparing for written and calculation-based assessments. A substantial part of this support has involved scientific explanations: deciding which observation matters, connecting it to a principle and expressing that connection accurately. I have also worked with students on interpreting tables and graphs, handling units consistently and reviewing answers after feedback. Moving between general Science and Chemistry has made me attentive to earlier skills that students may need to revisit before progressing with a new topic. My tutoring also includes Biology support in cellular and biochemical topics, particularly linking molecular explanations to diagrams and experimental evidence.
