About Julia
Hello, I'm Julia. I tutor English and French for the BC curriculum, with a calm, encouraging approach to reading, writing and finding the confidence to speak. If your child has plenty to say but struggles to begin a written task, we can start with a conversation and a simple plan. I use short extracts and manageable writing activities to give each session a clear focus. We might spend time choosing more precise words, explaining an inference or making a paragraph easier to follow. I speak English and French and can clarify instructions in either language when helpful. My French support focuses on Core French in Grades 5–8: building useful vocabulary, reading short passages and practising simple conversations. We can rehearse a sentence together before trying it more independently. My aim is for students to leave with a specific skill they can use in their next piece of schoolwork.
Tutoring experience
I’ve supported BC students with reading responses, paragraph writing and the step from talking about an idea to putting it on paper. Some families have wanted steady support alongside schoolwork; others have come with one assignment their child was finding hard to begin. My experience includes helping students use teacher feedback and become more comfortable revising their own sentences. I’ve also worked with learners who benefit from discussing an instruction in French before returning to their English task. That extra conversation can give us a useful starting point. I've also helped Grades 5–8 Core French students practise vocabulary, understand short texts and prepare spoken or written responses at a pace that feels manageable.
