About Jack
Hello, I'm Jack. I tutor Ontario Math, Physics and Computer Science, and I enjoy helping students figure out why a method works. If you can follow a worked example but get stuck when the question changes, we have a useful starting point. I mainly work with Grades 9-12. That includes Functions (MCR3U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), senior Physics and Introduction to Computer Science (ICS3U). We might sketch a function before using algebra, predict what a program will do or talk through a force diagram before touching a calculator. I like a relaxed lesson with plenty for the student to try. Outside tutoring, I enjoy basketball and making small games, usually with at least one bug left to track down.
Tutoring experience
I've tutored for two years, beginning with peer support and later working individually with secondary students. My experience includes helping learners strengthen algebra skills, prepare for physics tests and get comfortable with loops, functions and tracing code. I've also helped students who understand a topic in conversation but struggle to show their reasoning on paper. We practise setting out calculations and explaining decisions so their work is easier to follow. For programming assignments, I ask students to describe and test their own ideas, then help them investigate problems one at a time.
